Why do we need to review it anyway?
A DWQMP can quickly become out of date and not relevant therefore it may not be doing what it was intended to do i.e. risk management for public health. Hence regular reviews are recommended.
The review does not only include updates to names and contact details. It should consider all aspects of the DWQMP to ensure that they are still accurate, current and relevant. The review process should also determine and identify any changes and/or improvements required.
What should we look at during a review?
Look at relevant guidelines by the regulator for guidance, if available.
Refer to the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines (ADWG). The ADWG recommends that the review should look at reports from audits, drinking water quality performance and previous reviews. The review should also consider concerns of consumers, regulators and other stakeholders, and evaluate the suitability of the drinking water quality policy, objectives and preventive strategies in relation to changing internal and external conditions such as:
changes to legislation, expectations and requirements – the health-based treatment targets (HBTTs) are going to be included in the ADWG. The draft is out for public comments. Feel free to contact us on how we can help you with assessment and review in relation of HBTTs.
changes in the activities of the organisation
advances in science and technology
outcomes of drinking water quality incidents and emergencies
reporting and communication
The review process should be documented.
We’ll be happy to have a chat with you on the review process and help out where needed.
