What is International Women's Day? International Women's Day (8 March) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
International Women's Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action - whatever that looks like globally at a local level. But one thing is for sure, International Women's Day has been occurring for well over a century, with the first gathering in 1911.
Celebrating Womens' Contributions
At Viridis we have always had an equal opportunity ethos and from very early on we had gender parity. In fact it is only in the last year that we have had an equal number of male employees as female. Women have therefore played a big role in guiding Viridis to where we are today. Karen, Geraldine and Hanne are currently doing great things for us. But we've also had some talented women work with us in the past. I'd like thank them for all they have done and continue to do. We certainly would not be where we are today without the achievements of women.
A special thanks is also extended to my wife Mellissa, without her support Viridis would not exist.
Balance for Better
This year's theme for Internation Women's Day is Balance for Better. Everyone has a part to play in gender equality for a brighter future. I feel especially passionate about this being the father to two talented girls. We all need to strive for equity, in all aspects of our lives.
